Professional Development: The road to Success in the Ever-Changing Mortgage Profession
Wednesday, January 8th, 2020
The mortgage profession is ever-changing. Guideline changes, policy updates, and market conditions that affect interest rates are what mortgage professionals face every day – and the list goes on. It is important to your career as a mortgage professional to value continuing education. Knowledge is power and something that cannot be bought. Career growth depends on gaining as much knowledge as possible.
There are many opportunities available to help you become more knowledgeable. The National Mortgage Bankers Association now offers free education webinars for MBA members. This is a great resource to use to broaden your understanding of the mortgage profession. Many Mortgage Insurance companies also offer free training resources to help build skills, understanding and expertise.
If you have interest in building institutional knowledge and achieving professional success, then you may consider obtaining a certification or designation from the National MBA. Challenging yourself to further your education and knowledge will make you more powerful and a competitive asset. The Certified Mortgage Banker Designation is the highest level of professional success that is attainable.
Tennessee Mortgage Bankers Association leadership feels strongly about the value of education and its importance to our profession. Because of this, we are offering $10,000 in scholarships this year to deserving candidates. We are very excited about the opportunity to give back to our members and encourage people to grow in their career and consider the mortgage profession as a great career choice.
One of the new scholarships we are offering this year is a $2,000 Diversity and Inclusion Scholarship. The recipient will be from an underrepresented group who is pursuing the CMB designation and who is a member of the Tennessee Mortgage Bankers Association. Those funds can be used towards SOMB classes, CMB classes, CMB fees, or travel for classes and exams.
Another new Scholarship for us this year is a $2,000 High School Scholarship to a deserving graduating senior whose parents/guardian work in the mortgage profession for a company that is a member of the Tennessee Mortgage Bankers Association. They must plan on attending a four-year accredited college/junior college and be a resident of Tennessee.
TNMBA will continue offering three Scholarships to deserving College recipients, but have increased those to $2,000 each this year. There will be a winner from each of Tennessee’s three Grand Divisions, based on the qualifications of the applicants. This Scholarship is designed for students whose studies are directed towards the mortgage banking or mortgage-financing field. The applicants must currently be a junior, senior, or MBA candidate in a four-year accredited college/university or master’s program in Tennessee.
